lecture 6- ARUP

After the lecture from Stuart Bull from ARUP on thursday, i realised there are similarities between his workflow at ARUP and our workflow for experiment two- town hall station.
Stuart talked about how at ARUP they use several different programs such as: 3DS MAX, Rhino, AutoCAD, ArchiCAD, Revit and General Components to produce highly detailed designs/ plans for various people such as architects, engineers and clients. Using several different programs allows the people at ARUP to use the most of a program's strengths which allows them to produce such high quality work.

This workflow of ARUP, using several programs to achieve high quality work can be compared to our workflow for experiment two where we are using three different programs: Solidworks, 3DS Max and Crysis because each program has its own strengths.
Solidworks allows us to model solid objects whereas other programs such as sketchup does not allow this. 3DS Max allows us to texture our model from Solidworks to a high degree and Crysis allows us to interact within our actually model in a play mode.

REALISM

The lecture 'pure war' was based around simulations which have been used overtime worldwide, 'a mutated form of war that exists in a pure state of permanent preparation for and anticipation of actual warfare.' PAUL VIRILIO. These simulations were aimed to have three major outcomes:

1. INFORMATION PROCESSING

2. DECISION MAKING

3. PROBLEM SOLVING

The 'realism' of these simulations relate to my documentation of TOWN HALL station as I'm basically creating a simulation of one of Sydney's major train stations which ultimately could be used as a simulation for special event. The methods I take to document TOWN HALL station will determine how realistic my simulation of TOWN HALL will be.

exp 2- The Porosity of Subterranean Sydney

HOW TO CREATE A REALISTIC ENVIRONMENT.
measuring TOWN HALL STATION sounds like a challenging task but one i'm looking forward to. It's going to be a challenge after the events of what happened roughly eight years ago and the strict rules places such as TOWN HALL STATION have to prevent another terrorist attack happening.

an convenient method of taking measurements of TOWN HALL without looking too obvious such as using a tape measure and a trundle wheel, is by taking photos and using the dimensions of a person's height to estimate a measurement. Another way of recording the geometry of TOWN HALL STATION such as the length of the station is by simply counting the amount of strides it takes from one point to another, even though this will only give us a rough measurement, we can use it as a reference guide.

the materiality, light and interaction of TOWN HALL STATION can all be recorded with observations and writing down notes.
materiality and light can also be recorded by the aid of a camera and can be researched from current photos of the station which should show the materials used and the amount of light that eneters the station. The interaction of TOWN HALL STATION could be researched online for studies and flow charts of pedestrian movements throughout different parts of the day.

week five- peer reviews

week four- whatever happens in vegas, stays in vegas

modes of documentary production

the mode of documentary that i will be using in my experiment to explore the physical effect of an explosion on posrosity is 'observational documentary'. Observational documentary is a style to depict everyday life from a person's point of view, unlike other documentary modes where the camera is behind a person exposing a different view, observational documentary captures the reality of what is infront of the camera and helps add another dimension to the documentary.

Using observational documentary throughout my attempt to explore the physical effect of an explosion on porosity will help aid me throughout the documentary, adding another dimension to the video- adding to the element of porosity.

week three- let there be light, i shall call the light day and the dark night. let there be rain

week two- one explode, two explode, three explode

PLATFORM #2

PLATFORM #1

The following videos are a series of explosions of different entities, at similar scales with different effects. Some of the entities create a massive explosion while others such as the village have a sideways effect to it, while the first-aid room is not effected by the explosion at all.

I believe some of the effects of the explosions are affected by the density of the entity as with the boat explosion, it is clear the effect it has on it, with the boat going high into the air after the explosion.
